Dear visitors

These challenging times have made us feel more acutely than ever that art and the engagement with it are vital. Our current exhibition Potential Worlds 2: Eco-Fictions, the second presentation in the series Potential Worlds, which probes the relationship between nature and mankind, is closed in compliance with covid regulations until further notice. We regret that we currently can't offer you the opportunity to experience the works, which respond to the present ecological crisis by sketching productive visions for the future, in the galleries. But we're proud to announce a variety of digital formats that allow for unusual and exciting insights into the exhibition and our work while also enlarging the scope of the discourse we've sought to nurture.

Eco-Fictions has inspired a short film that provides an introduction to the exhibition's themes and harnesses the medium's narrative devices to translate them into a movie experience. The exhibition film is available on our website. We've also developed a special series for our Instagram in which we showcase selected works from the exhibition in unusual perspectives. What's more, we're working with the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) to realize an extensive program of online events: a full-day symposium will bring together scholars and artists for a transdisciplinary discussion of contemporary debates around the ecological crisis. And three conversations with artists will offer opportunities for an in-depth engagement with the various positions in the exhibition.

We're also excited to present the video symposium Taking Measures: Usages of Formats in Film and Video Art. The online platform, created in collaboration with the University of Zurich, gathers artists, filmmakers, and scholars who investigate the diverse uses of formats—a central concern for all who produce, exhibit, and collect contemporary art.

As you can see, we're not letting the lockdown stop us from fostering a rich conversation around art. These next few weeks, we'll chart alternatives to the traditional exhibition visit or live event to invite you to an encounter with art and a discussion of pressing questions of our time. We look forward to exchanging ideas with you in the framework of these novel formats and hope your new year is off to a good start!
