Fire In Our Bellies
Performed by Maïa Nunes and Rory White
Fire in Our Bellies is a light offering. This immersive and experimental performance by Maïa, accompanied by longtime friend and collaborator Rory White, will use cello, organic sounds and vocal improvisation to create a sonic environment that explores the relationship between sound and the sun as vital sources, creative and healing forces. This work will warm and enliven, burn and clear, illuminate and ask; how can we cultivate and harness the destructive and creative qualities of fire energy to serve us both individually and collectively?

Maïa Nunes
Maïa Nunes (They/Them) is an Irish-Trinidadian performance artist whose inter-disciplinary practice explores legacies of colonialism, the transformative and world-conjuring potential of performance, and song as a liberation and healing practice. In 2021 Maïa’s video performance work Arima was purchased by the Irish Museum of Modern Art for their permanent collection. They also had the first international showing of their work Crossings in Silver-Tongued Seas, an exhibition at Jupiter Woods Gallery, London. Maïa is also a 2021-22 Next Generation Artist, an award given by the Irish Arts Council. Maïa is co-founder of Origins Eile, a grassroots organisation centering Queer Black people and People of Colour in Ireland.

Rory White
Dublin born Rory White is a classically trained award-winning cellist, and internationally recognised composer for commercial media and film. Over the past two years Maïa & Rory have grown their enduring friendship into a highly collaborative relationship.  When Rory is not working on composition and sound design in a variety of interdisciplinary fields, he spends his time making wood fired pizza and surfing.
