The Currency Lab – Workshop

Special May 9, 2025 05:00 pm – 07:00 pm

Venue: The workshop begins at the Caring Space (Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst) and ends at K72 (Konradstrasse 72, 8005 Zurich).

In the current exhibition Accumulation – on collecting, growth and excess, Elom 20ce (Togo), Musquiqui Chihying (Taiwan) and Gregor Kasper (Germany) present several works from their long-term project THE CURRENCY. The project deals with one of the world's largest e-waste recycling centres in Agbogbloshie (Accra, Ghana).

As an extension of the project, the artists are offering a focus tour through the exhibition as well as an experimental sound workshop in public space. They will begin by talking about their artistic practice and their engagement with Agbogbloshie in front of their works.

Following this, a collective sound walk takes place: participants will explore the public urban space between the Museum and K72 – the project space of the Department of Cultural Analysis and Mediation at ZHdK, located not far from the museum – in an experimental manner using electromagnetic waves. After the walk, K72 opens its doors and invites everyone for a shared exchange with snacks and drinks.

The event is part of THE CURRENCY LAB – ZÜRICH, which is being realised in collaboration with the Major Critical Social Practice in Art Education at ZHdK. In addition to the focus tour and the sound workshop, the programme also includes a film screening followed by a discussion at the museum on 8 May.
