Conference: Radical Pedagogy in Museums

Radical Pedagogy describes new forms of mediation that redefine the museum as a space of encounter and reimagine the agency of mediation. It explores new ways of listening, learning, unlearning, and coming together. This discussion is particularly urgent in light of current societal challenges.
The conference Radical Pedagogy in Museums is aimed at professionals in the field of art education, students of art pedagogy and mediation, teachers, and other interested individuals. It serves as a working conference to promote the exchange of ideas and practices among us as local actors in the field of art mediation. The event will take place at ZHdK (Zurich University of the Arts) and the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst. Two institutions where the mediation of contemporary art is both practiced and critically reflected upon.
The first part of the conference at ZHdK will feature a presentation by the Geneva-based collective microsillons, which identifies as artist-educators. They will present and contextualize their practice. In the second part, participants will gather at the Migros Museum of Contemporary Art to engage with practice-oriented questions of mediating contemporary art, using the exhibition Haegue Yang: Leap Year as a case study. The focus will be on the challenges of working with (post-)conceptual contemporary art from a mediative perspective.
Some of the outcomes from the conference will contribute to a publication by ZHdK.
