Season Opening: Concert by Espinoza
Time: 6.30 – 7 pm
Location: courtyard (ground floor)
The performance will consist in a repertoire of folk songs accompanied and not by the venezuelan cuatro, a traditional four-string guitar. The genres that will be performed are the tonadas de ordeño and tonadas de arreo, respectively sung during cow-milking and herding, amongst a few others.
The thematic of the songs revolves around the daily work to be done, the connection to the land, and longing.
Espinoza is a venezuelan performer. His research is based on folk songs from his ancestry and their relationship to daily life and toil. His performances place the voice as the main vehicle, and perceive the space as integral part of the instrument. In his migration he has amalgamated sounds that he deems to be universal human patrimony into his vocal practice; he is currently exploring Alpine jodel.
