The Black Stammtisch is an open exchange format for the Black community, now regularly taking place at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst. The Black Stammtisch provides a space for encounters, discussions, and collective knowledge exchange on topics such as racism, identity, everyday life, trends, and cultural diversity. In the exhibition space of the museum, people come together to share experiences, learn from each other, and discuss societal challenges. The Black Stammtisch promotes respectful dialogue and creates a safe space for marginalized voices in Switzerland.

As part of the exhibition "Collection &: Sylvie Fleury, Shamiran Istifan, She-Devils on Wheels, Angels on Heels", this session focuses on the unspoken. We will discuss who produces knowledge, whose knowledge is heard, and who has access to knowledge. In doing so, we’ll also be looking at shapeshifting and code-switching as experiences and strategies of Black people in Switzerland; at moving between different spaces, roles, languages and behaviours; and at the expectations associated with these. Together, we want to reflect on what becomes visible when things are left unsaid, meanings are shifted and familiar codes are reinterpreted.

A brief overview of the Black Stammtisch format: Black and BIPoC individuals sit at the table and talk. Part 2 is where everyone is invited to listen.

We come with the full awareness that this is an Accountable Space. An "Accountable Space" is an environment where participants engage with each other respectfully, take responsibility for their actions and statements, and are open to feedback. It fosters a safe and inclusive space for open discussions, especially on sensitive topics.
