Avery F. Gordon and Anselm Franke – A Conversation on Archiving and Resistance

Artist’s Talk April 9, 2026 06:30 pm – 07:30 pm

Venue: Shamiana meeting space

As part of the current exhibition Disobedience Archive (Canopy for Broken Time) – In dialogue with Raqs Media Collective at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, we warmly invite you to an engaging conversation with Avery F. Gordon and Anselm Franke.

Together, they will explore the many forms that resistance can take, and how such acts are documented, preserved, and transmitted over time. Their discussion will delve into both the practical and philosophical challenges of archiving disobedience, addressing questions of memory, temporality, and radical imagination.

Attendees will gain rare insight into the complex interplay between artistic practice, sociological inquiry, and the political stakes of remembering and resisting. This is a unique opportunity to hear from two internationally recognized thinkers whose work has profoundly shaped contemporary understandings of dissent, archives, and radical histories.

Avery F. Gordon is a writer and educator based in London. She is the author of The Hawthorn Archive: Letters from the Utopian Margins, Ghostly Matters: Haunting and the Sociological Imagination, and numerous other works on radical thought and practice. Her research investigates how marginalized voices and histories persist through time and memory. More about Avery Gordon
