Autonome Schule & Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst: Protest Transpi Workshop

The creative workshop series "Protest Transpi" taking place from November 12th, 2024, to January 14th, 2025, at the Autonome Schule Zürich (ASZ) and the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, is part of the exhibition "Streching Threshholds,Holding Streams" and combines artistic practice with activist strategies. Banner-making originates from protest and demonstration culture. Banners are designed to take a visible stance and to stand up for or against something. Banners serve to draw attention to the thresholds and boundaries within a society and encourage people to collectively cross them.
For the workshop, the threshold is an important starting point for individual and collective engagement with social and political barriers in society.
In the banner workshop, the first two sessions will include thematic introductions to the significance of banners within protest cultures, combined with design exercises, exploring the role of emotions as a form of artistic expression, among other topics. The subsequent sessions will primarily focus on the design and production of participants' own banners using various techniques.
The banners created in the workshop will gradually become part of the "At the Threshold of the Museum" exhibition, providing an opportunity to make individual and collective attitudes, processes, stories, and messages visible within the museum context.
The workshop is open to anyone interested in protest culture, socially engaged art, collective design, and collaborative creativity.
The Autonome Schule is a project against racism and injustice. It is a self-organized and collectively run school and meeting place without any state funding or commissions
