Artist's talk with Judith Bernstein

Artist’s Talk June 13, 2015 01:00 pm – 02:00 pm
Judith Bernstein in conversation with Raphael Gygax (curator, Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst) and Judith Welter (collection curator, Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst). The talk is about Bernsteins themes and artistic practices.

(free admission, in English)

Since the late 1960s, Judith Bernstein’s art has combined textual fragments with a sexually explicit iconography inspired by the visual vocabulary teenagers might use. Many motifs in her paintings are reminiscent of the sort of doodles and graffiti images that grace public bathrooms and similar locations.

Judith Bernstein (b. Newark, N.J., 1942; lives and works in New York) holds an MFA from Yale University. She was a founding member of A.I.R. Gallery and had her first solo show there in 1973. She has recently had solo shows at Mary Boone Gallery, New York (2015), Karma International, Zurich (2014), Studio Voltaire, London (2014), The New Museum, New York (2012), The Box LA, Los Angeles (2013), and the Alex Zachary Gallery, New York (2010).
