Artist's Talk

Artist’s Talk January 17, 2013 07:00 pm – 08:00 pm
(in English) Edek Bartz : Ragnar, first question : What is the earliest pop song you remember, as a teenager?
Ragnar Kjartansson : I remember everybody in school liked pop music, and I did not really like it. But then I heard “The Lady in Red” [sings], and I thought that was a really good song
.
(Ragnar Kjartansson: To Music/An die Musik, JRP|Ringier, 2012)

The Icelandic artist and musician Ragnar Kjartansson has remained a big music fan. On Thursday, January 17, he will bring selected works from his wide-ranging music collection to Zurich. In conversation with the Austrian musician, curator, and writer Edek Bartz, Kjartansson will talk about his passion and his musical predilections. We look forward to what will surely be an entertaining evening featuring unexpected songs and musical discoveries! Of course, we will also learn more about Kjartansson’s art. Music, after all, plays a crucial role in most of his performance and video pieces, and that is certainly true of his show The Visitors, on display at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst through January 27, 2013.

Edek Bartz is a musician, DJ, concert promoter, curator, and writer and teaches at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. He has been active in the music industry for more than twenty-five years and went on tour with artists like Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, and Frank Zappa. With Wolfgang Kos, he cofounded the avant-garde music festival “Töne—Gegentöne.”
