Workshop: No Cash only Chaos – Love Edition

March 11, 2023 03:00 pm – 05:00 pm

This workshop explores the medium of video in relation to pop culture, television and feature films, TikTok and theater. It is led by video artist Julia Nusser.

Alex Bag's work «Cash for Chaos/Unicorns and Rainbows» from the current exhibition serves as a guide. She parodies over 5 hours of shows and programs from 90's Daily American TV with Petterson Beckwith. The work is funny, lengthy, political, and sometimes a bit nasty. In the workshop, the participants will film short videos with their smartphones and will try their hand as actors, directors and camera persons. With the help of costumes, make-up and a bit of imagination, a transformation of the participants should take place in front of the camera. The theme of this workshop will focus on love and relationships. Newly in love or an established team, bored married couples as well as separations and longing. These motives can be acted out in the form of revealing Oprah Winfrey-style TV interviews, educational documentaries à la Oswalt Kolle, schmaltzy feature films inspired by Twilight, and Red Flag warnings via Tik Tok. This is your time to shine!

Julia Nusser (1991) is part of the artist duo Nusser Glazova. The queer feminist works are mostly videos about the dreams and realities of life of female-read people and teenagers. In her thesis for the Master of Fine Arts at ZHdK Julia deals with queer and feminist perspectives in horror films.
