Souvenirs in space and time: Guided Tour on trauma & memory in «Material Memories»
Location: Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Material Memories
Join Daniel Schechter, a professor of psychiatry and developmental neuroscience on a guided tour in the exhibition « Material Memories », where he explores how art and neuroscience intersect in understanding trauma and memory. Prof. Schechter poses questions about how works of art can help us understand contemporary psychiatric neuroscience in the context of development and vice versa. He suggests that just as children may use play to process traumatic events, artists can use their creativity to transform traumatic memories into tangible forms of expression. Through their artwork, artists such as Heidi Bucher, Yael Davids, and Graciela Gutiérrez share their experiences, fostering a shared understanding and potential healing. Schechter's work underscores art's ability to reshape and recontextualize trauma, shedding light on both individual and collective experiences.
