Collection Insights: Heidi Bucher with Anita Hoess and Matthias Läuchli
Meeting point: Migros Museum, ground floor
Heidi Bucher's artwork «Ricks Kinderzimmer» from 1987, part of the museum's collection, is an impressive casting of a room using latex and fabric. It is one of the last remaining intact spaces created by the renowned Swiss artist. This monumental piece underwent extensive conservation and restoration in 2021 after a significant stiffening of the folded room was discovered in its storage crate. Suitable solutions for the flexibilization, transport, presentation, and storage of the artwork had to be devised. The conservation and restoration of the piece, as well as its handling as an exhibit, represent a delicate balance between preserving the original substance and maintaining the artwork as a visible and experiential object in the museum.
tour, Anita Hoess and Matthias Läuchli share their insights on the conservation of the artwork, offering visitors an in-depth look into the complex restoration process they closely oversaw in collaboration with the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst. The tour takes place as part of the collection exhibition Material Manipulations.
Anita Hoess and Matthias Läuchli are freelance conservators who have been working together in a shared studio in Wallisellen for nearly ten years. They occasionally collaborate on projects.
