Suppressed (Queer) Histories – How to Learn Together and Gain Back Agency

Lectures and symposia November 7, 2024 06:00 pm – 09:00 pm

Venue: Caring Space

The exhibition ‘Knowledge Is a Garden’ shows how knowledge is suppressed, repressed or forgotten because of political power structures. Following on from this, the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst is organising a lecture and workshop event on active and joint knowledge production.

Strategies for agency are at the centre of the event: The lecture and workshop format informs and empowers participants to become active themselves and counter the unfair distribution of knowledge. Several political-activist initiatives will present their practices in short input lectures, after which the participants will enter into a round table discussion - experiences will be shared and questions discussed.

Finally, in a workshop organised by the ‘Ni Una Menos Zürich’ initiative, banners will be designed for vigils to draw attention to femicides in Switzerland.

Participants:

  • Karachi LaJamia (Zahra Malkani and Shahana Rajani) – online
Karachi LaJamia works non-institutionally and primarily with activists in Karachi, Pakistan. The collective attempts to politicize art education and collaboratively explore radical pedagogies and art practices. The goal is to disrupt imperial forms of knowledge production and circulation.

  • Lesbenorganisation Schweiz – LOS

The Lesbian Organization Switzerland LOS is the national organization for lesbians, bisexuals, and queer women in Switzerland. The organization fights for the legal and social equality of lesbians, bisexuals, and queer women. It supports member groups and members, raises public awareness, is a point of contact for questions, and does political work.

  • Ni Una Menos Zürich
