Symposium ""The Contemporary Art Field—Perspectives on a Transformation"
Lectures and symposia
November 24, 2012
02:00 pm
– 03:00 pm
What do artists, curators, critics, gallerists, collectors, and exhibition audiences think about contemporary art? How has the field changed, and how do its actors view its current transformation, which is variously described with catchphrases like the triumph of the market, the ascendancy of the biennial format, or the crisis of art criticism? The symposium offers well-founded answers to these questions, drawing on a scholarly study (based on the theoretical framework laid out by Pierre Bourdieu) that was conducted in Zurich under the leadership of Ulf Wuggenig, as well as on earlier surveys in Vienna, Hamburg, and Paris, whose results will be brought in for comparison and put up for discussion.
