Reopening

Opening November 16, 2012 06:00 pm – 07:00 pm
The Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst opens its renovated and expanded premises in the Löwenbräukunst Complex on 16 November 2012 with Ragnar Kjartansson’s first solo exhibition in Switzerland. Originally scheduled for the end of August 2012, the reopening had to be postponed at the last minute due to construction delays. Together with the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, all the institutions in the Löwenbräukunst Complex are now open to the public. Heike Munder, director of the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, is doubly pleased: “The two-year rebuilding phase has finally come to an end and we are able to move into the new rooms in the remodelled Löwenbräukunst Complex in November 2012. I am particularly delighted to present to our visitors at the opening the Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson’s first solo exhibition in Switzerland.” The Museum now features two levels: one floor will be used for the presentation of the collection, while the other is available for temporary individual or group exhibitions. Thanks to the new event room, the Museum will also be able to expand its art education and special events program.
As part of his first solo exhibition in Switzerland, the Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson presents the video installation «The Visitors», which was conceived especially for the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst. For the vernissage on 16 November 2012, the Museum extends an invitation to a special event: at 9:30pm, Ragnar Kjartansson will take the stage and set the mood with his All Star Band.
