Almost Heaven – Performance by Gregory Tara Hari

«Almost Heaven» is a performative showdown in which a lone cowboy moves around an empty saloon. This abandoned setting serves artist and cultural worker Gregory Tara Hari as the basis for his artistic work, in which he recites existing texts from films, songs, political statements and combines them with freely invented passages. In doing so, Hari spins a web between current debates and historical events, thus addressing issues that affect us all.

Performance and text inspired by Brokeback Mountain, Donald Trump, Fleet Foxes, Gölä, Hans-Rudolf Brunko, Heinrich Lienhard, Johann August Sutter, John Denver, Lauren Clark, Parks and Recreation, Shania Twain, Stefan Stark, Willie Nelson, Xaver Schuler, the Hari-Langsanam family and many more.

Dedicated to all who have been discriminated against and subjected to violence because of their gender, beliefs, disabilities, age, sexual orientation, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Gregory Tara Hari's practice is based on artistic and contextual research and shows a broad interest in political and social issues. The result is works that move between historical and contemporary facts and cover various fields such as architecture, culture, postcolonial and queer studies. Hari's work includes performances, texts and music as well as painting, drawing, photography, video and sculpture.
