Blissful Readings – Reading Circle for the Exhibition BLISS
Venue: Caring Space, Museum
Follow-up dates: March 3 (5–6 pm), March 12 (6–7 pm), March 30 (5–6 pm), April 9 (6–7 pm), April 27 (5–6 pm)
The French artist and poet Tarek Lakhrissi explores the search for the self from a queer perspective. But he also locates his own desire as part of the social exclusion of marginalised people: a journey through chaos and the tireless search for blissful moments.
Tarek Lakhrissi’s artistic practice is always based on text, poetry and language. The exhibition is therefore accompanied by a regular reading circle with six meetings.
Much like in Lakhrissi’s exhibition, the goal of the protagonist in Kai Cheng Thom’s novel «Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars: A Dangerous Trans Girl’s Confabulous Memoir» is neither adaptation nor rejection – rather, it is to create her own world. The fictional narrative raises questions about the daily experience of minorities within a society that is predominantly made up of a white, cisgender and heterosexual majority.
After reading aloud to each other, there will be time to discuss the interweaving of fiction and reality. The Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst will provide each participant with a book, which they can keep afterwards.
